Well this one is up for debate here at Strathallans Gluten Free Porridge Oats as there are 3 cooks here. There are the 2 Muirhead sisters Alison & Anita and myself (Mo) who works in the office.

All of us make a delicious bowl of porridge differently and so we have 3 different recipes. Can too many cooks spoil the porridge, definitely not. We have Alison who makes her porridge with water and a pinch of salt. Anita prefers hers with milk and no salt.  Then there is myself who prefers porridge made with water and no salt required.  The recipe below lets you choose whether you want to make it with milk, water or a mixture of both. Please give us your favourite method for the perfect bowl of porridge, email us at info@scottishglutenfree.com.

To keep your breakfast time interesting why not add some fresh or dried fruit to your delicious bowl of Scottish gluten free porridge.

Ingredients:

50g Strathallans Gluten Free Porridge Oats

350ml milk or water (or a mixture of both)

Pinch of salt (optional)

Clear honey OR

Handful of fruit (dried or fresh)

Method:

On the Hob -

Put the oats into a saucepan with the milk/water and a pinch of salt.

Bring to the boil then simmer for 4 - 5 minutes.

Stir occasionally watching that it doesn't stick to the bottom.

To serve, pour into your bowl and add a drizzle of clear honey and or a handful of fruit and enjoy your hearty gluten free breakfast.

Microwave -

Mix the oats, milk/water and salt altogether in a microwavable bowl.

Microwave on High (750w) for 5 minutes, if your microwave is of a higher wattage then reduce cooking time.

Pause cooking half way through and stir thoroughly then finish cooking.

Once fully cooked leave to stand for 2 mins.

To serve drizzle some clear honey or add a handful of fruit and enjoy your hearty gluten free breakfast.
